Kyoto Ichinoden opens The Mussels as it continues to expand and diversify in the city

Kyoto Ichinoden, a Japanese restaurant group with a history spanning more than 90 years, opened a new French restaurant, The Mussels, in Hong Kong today (17 November 2021) diversifying its portfolio in a continuous expansion in the city defying impact from the pandemic.

The Mussels adds to the group’s four existing Japanese brands, namely, Kyoto Ichinoden, Tominokoji Yamagishi, Susoshu and Yakiniku Jikon. It sits at a landmark location on the front of Victoria Harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui serving fine French food at affordable price. It is inspired by Parisian sidewalk cafes putting dining in a street environment. The idea is to resemble the iconic and romantic scenery in Paris and offer a new experience for discerning diners in Hong Kong, according to the President of Kyoto Ichinoden HK Limited, Mr Jumpei Tanaka.

He said, “We would like to diversify our business operation in Hong Kong and make Kyoto Ichinoden Hong Kong our regional headquarters in East Asia region outside of Japan. The city is situated in the heart of Asia and close to Mainland China. It is the ideal place for us to effectively develop our brand in the East Asia and Mainland markets.”

He added, “In the mid to long term, we will continue to expand our restaurant portfolio in Hong Kong planning to open 10 more restaurants in the next 12-18 months. We still positively consider the city as a place with good business opportunities despite COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to spread our business in earnest.”

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Charles Ng, said, “We are happy to see that Kyoto Ichinoden brings another restaurant brand to Hong Kong. It offers not only another choice of restaurant to customers, but also shows a vote of confidence in our food and beverage sector. We look forward to its continuous expansion in the city and beyond.”
